Shilpa Bawane (b.1980) is an Indian multi-media art practitioner, residing and working in Pune.
Her art is a sensitive response to her personal experiences, focusing on exploring geometric space with a corporeal aspect. Intrigued by the notions of permanence, impermanence, and recovery, she perceives architectural landscapes and communal structures as embodying memories and lived narratives. Through her art and installations, Shilpa endeavours to incite dialogues concerning the passage of time, honing in on the vulnerability of our surrounding environments and humanity's innate capacity for resilience and rejuvenation. Drawing from the tapestry of her journey, Shilpa's creations serve as evocative visualizations of potentialities, prompting viewers to contemplate the emotional significance inherent within space and materiality, thereby creating an appreciation for the present moment.
In this process of exploration, she does embroidery, she carves and constructs space, makes installations, paintings and explores sound and poetry. She likes to embrace different mediums as per the requirement of her work and enjoys how her mediums often feed into each other.
